Fire Safety Drill

July 19, 2024

Fire Safety Drill was conducted in SGPC’s Guru Nanak Institute of Management Studies on Friday, 19 th July 2024 at 3.00pm in the college premises. The primary objective of the fire safety mock drill was to ensure that all employees are familiar with the fire safety and handling procedure in case of a fire, understand the use of fire-fighting equipment, and are aware of the designated assembly points. This drill aimed to enhance the preparedness of the workforce in handling fire emergencies efficiently and safely.

All employees (teaching and nonteaching) were notified about the upcoming drill a week in advance through announcement. A briefing session was conducted by employee of NX company. He explained evacuation plan and assembly points. Drill was executed. The fire alarm was activated. This marked the start of the drill. Employees evacuated the building promptly, following the designated evacuation routes. Floor wardens guided the evacuation process to ensure orderly and quick movement. Participants gathered at the pre-determined assembly points. Attendance was taken to ensure employees had evacuated safely. Demonstration on how to use fire extinguishers (ABC type) was conducted. Its use of application was demonstrated, and all the faculties were asked to practise for confidence of use.

The fire safety mock drill was successful in achieving its objectives. Employees demonstrated a good understanding of the evacuation procedures and the use of fire-fighting equipment. The observations and recommendations provided will help in further improving the safety measures and ensuring a higher level of readiness for fire emergencies.
